Obituary

Mae Whitfield, 85, of West Haven, entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2016.

Ms. Whitfield was born in Salters, SC on May 12, 1930. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Whitfield, Sr. and Belinda June Whitfield.

Prior to retiring, Ms. Whitfield was employed at the West Haven VA Medical Center as a Nurse's Assistant. She was a longtime member of St. Matthew's UFWB where she sang on the Senior Choir and served as its secretary.

She is survived by siblings, Annette Redwine, Rachael Clark, Margaret Driffin, Helen Johnson (Leroy), Kathleen Whitfield, Daisy Whifield-Pasley, Attorney Nathaniel Whitfield (Josephine), Lorraine Capers (Willie), Melonese Washington (David) and Bishop Mary W. Walton (J.C.); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by siblings, Marie Cooper, Joseph Whitfield, Jr., Emmie Lee Whitfield, Bishop James Thomas Whitfield and Julius Calvin Whitfield.

A celebration of Ms. Whitfield's life will be held Friday, April 8, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
