Odell G. Bellamy, 91, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on May 1, 2026.
She was born on January 28, 1935, in Southport, North Carolina, to the late Wheeler Garvin and Dorothy Mae Garvin.
Mother Bellamy was a devoted and faithful member of Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She found great joy in serving the Lord through singing in the choir, being on the Missionary Board and participating in missionary work and faithfully serving as a Deacon for many years. She was also an active member of the Levi Association of the Baptist Convention, which she fondly spoke of even after she was no longer able to attend. Her life reflected her deep love for God and her commitment as a faithful servant.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughters, Ella Bellamy and Marian (Bobbe) Bellamy-Joyner (Dean); her sons Benjamin (Benny) Bellamy and Edward (Bo) Bellamy (Alice); and her extended family Diane, Annette, Franklin and Benjamin. She was a Loving Grandmother to five grandchildren, whom she loved beyond words, and a proud great-grandmother to nine great grandchildren, whom she adored deeply and couldn’t do any wrong in her opinion.
She is survived by sisters, Dorothy King of Virginia Beach and Maggie Gaylor of Boston; brother, Wheeler Garvin Jr. (Delores) of Winnabow, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Anne Pearl Garvin of Winnabow, NC; brother-in-law, Junebug Bellamy of Bolivia, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, especially her Church Family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Bellamy; son, Joseph (Gusta) Bellamy; her sisters, Catherine Mayes, Jackie Tolbert, Ada Garvin and Rebecca Jinwright; and brothers, Willie Frank Garvin and Reverend John Henry Garvin.
Mother Bellamy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her loving spirit and her dedication to her family and church. Her legacy of love and devotion will continue to live on in all who knew her.
A celebration of her life and legacy will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Love Center, 154 Derby Ave., New Haven, followed by burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Family and friends may attend a viewing at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m.
