Mary L. Talley Young entered into eternal rest on May 18, 2021. She was born on June 10, 1932 in Union, SC, a daughter of the late James D. W. Talley and Lurlie Webb Talley.

In her early life, Mary was a member of St. Paul's Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Sims High School in Union, SC. After high school, she was employed at Wallace Thompson Hospital. Mary married James A. Young. She had 3 daughters. She was interested in secretarial work and pursued an education in clerical studies. She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and dancing. Mary also enjoyed visiting with her daughters and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Rita L. (Jerome) Young Moore of Union, SC and Cheryl A. (Michael) Corey of New Haven, CT; her siblings, Anderson (Gladys) Talley, Rose Ellen (Modest) Keenan and Ernest Talley; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Gloria Wilson; and siblings, James Talley, Clarence Talley, Walter Talley, Leroy Talley, Mealer Ford, Elizabeth Kershaw and Marva McKay.

A celebration of Ms. Young's life and legacy will be held Monday, May 24, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella T. Grasso Blvd., New Haven. Anyone attending the celebration of life, viewing and / or burial must adhere to any and all COVID-19 safety protocols.
