Marilyn Arleen Garvin, 70, of Hamden, entered eternal rest August 9, 2026.
Marilyn was born in New Haven, CT, on August 31, 1955, daughter of the late Ada Garvin and Harry Anderson, Sr.
She was employed for many years at Arden House as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and was also employed by the City of New Haven Board of Education as a substitute teacher.
Marilyn was a member of New Hope Worship Center for many years, where she previously served as a trustee. She loved to travel and shop, which were her passions.
She leaves to cherish her memory her aunts, Dorothy Lee King of Virginia Beach, VA, and Maggie Gaylor of Boston, MA; her uncle, Wheeler Garvin, Jr. (Delores) of North Carolina; her siblings, Corey Anderson (Crystal) of New Haven, CT; Harry Anderson, Jr. (Michelle) of New Haven, CT; Willie Jackson of Waterbury, CT; Lisa Anderson of New Haven, CT; Gail Horton (Donald), Carol Strong-Robinson (George), and Yvonne Anderson, all of Winterville, NC; Deborah Herring of Raleigh, NC; and Saundra Strong of Hamden, CT; her adopted sister-friend, Rev. Dr. Lynda Bembury of Hamden, CT; goddaughter, Sharrona Council; the Moore family; a very close friend, Deborah Furlow; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael Dublin; her aunts, Jacque Tolbert, Catherine Mayes, and Rebecca Jinwright; her aunt, Odell Bellamy, and her husband, Frank; her uncles, John Henry Garvin and his wife, Annie Pearl, and Willie Frank Garvin and his wife, Eva; her godson, Lencia Jinwright; and her nephew, Tyshaun Strong.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St., Hamden, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends may attend a viewing at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
