Hilda I. Smith, 97, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on November 23, 2020. She was the widow of Cortez Smith.

Mrs. Smith was born in Fremont, NC on December 24, 1922, a daughter of the late Frank Joyner and Lucy Newsome Joyner.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed for 30 years at the V.A. Hospital as a Dialysis Technician.

Mrs. Smith was a longtime member of Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church in New Haven where she served as a Deaconess.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, daughters, Erma J. Smith and Carolyn Smith-Stewart; two grandchildren, Monica McDonald and Odell Stewart, III; a special great niece, Ratasha Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Edith Best, Glossiephine McLawhorn, Aro Harper and Bessie Harper.

A Walk-through viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, December 2, 2020 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. A Graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Ave., New Haven. Anyone attending the viewing, graveside service or burial will be asked to adhere to any COVID-19 safety restrictions.
