Helen A. Liburd, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2026. Although Helen came from the Caribbean, she spent most of her adult life in the United States, residing in Connecticut. Helen became a born-again believer at the age of twelve and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. In fulfillment of her divine calling, she worked tirelessly to win souls to Christ. She was deeply committed to helping those in need and gave generously. Well known as Sister Liburd, she was admired and loved for her gentility and kindness. She was a devoted member of Bible Gospel Center in Hamden, CT and faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent at Church of God of Prophecy in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Helen was also a great fundraiser while residing in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and in appreciation of her fundraising efforts, a banquet was held in her honor. Prior to coming to Connecticut, Helen served as an Administrative Officer with the Virgin Islands Department of Education in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands and was also a childcare counselor at various institutions in Connecticut.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Greville Liburd; three children, Angela Merlese Liburd, Bradley Sylvester Liburd, and Gregory Gerard Liburd; her former daughter-in-law, Faithe Reid Liburd; two grandchildren, Krystal Liburd and Gabriel Liburd; and a host of other relatives and friends. She always made time for everyone she knew was in need.
