Helen Rosen Bromell a woman of remarkable strength, faith, and resilience, transitioned into eternal rest on June 6, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Toddsville South Carolina on October 12, 1939 to the late Deacon Isaac Roosevelt Floyd and Bessie Sessions-Floyd, she shared many great memories of a loving and fun filled home along with 12 siblings.
In 1963 she wed Clarence Bromell, Jr. and in 1965 they migrated to New Haven, Connecticut. Shortly thereafter they moved into their home in Hamden, Connecticut. Helen was employed as a housekeeper for over 34 years until her retirement.
Helen was a member of St. Matthew’s U.F.W.B. Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Lloyd Taylor, Bishop Robert J. Gay and the current Pastor Kevin C. Hardy and has been a faithful member for 56 years. Helen was a member of the Senior Ushers Ministry and served as President for 7 years.
Sis. Bromell was passionate about serving God and serving others. She lived a full and meaningful life, cherishing family and friends. Building an environment that was peaceful and welcoming. She enjoyed reading, gardening, listening to music and word search puzzles.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Patrick and Grandal; a bonus son, Franklin (Suzie) of South Carolina; three daughters, Margaret (Nate) of South Carolina, Cathy, and Latrecia; and a bonus daughter, Gail (Roscoe) of South Carolina. She is also survived by three siblings: Rev. Henry Glenn Floyd (Elouise) of North Carolina, Francis Vernon of Oklahoma, and Diane Floyd of Conway, South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Bromell, Jr.; two sons, Spencer and Mark; and a granddaughter, Sheena.
A celebration of her life and legacy will be held Friday, June 19, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Matthew’s U.F.W.B. Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Family and friends may attend a viewing at the church from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M., followed by burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park. The service will be live-streamed via Zoom.
