Elsie F. Nelson, 89, of Hamden, entered into eternal rest on June 3, 2016. She was the widow of James Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson was born in New Haven, CT on June 2, 1927, a daughter of the late William and Geraldine Ferguson.

She was a longtime member of Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ and prior to retirement, was employed by the State of Connecticut as a Case Worker.

Mrs. Nelson leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Eugena Nelson; nephew, Dennis (Jackie) Daniels; a brother in-law, Herbert Daniels; sister in-law, Mary Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Doris Pride and Violet Daniels; and a niece, Sheila Wright.

A celebration of Mrs. Nelson's life and legacy will be held Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Dixwell Ave. Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
