On Saturday, June 27, 2026 Dalton Vasco Edwards (78), passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown CT. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Born on June 26, 1948 in Prospect District, Clarendon, Jamaica, he moved to Canada with his family in 1988, and eventually made Richmond Hill, Ontario his home.
An electrician by trade, Dalton worked for Canada Bread, and retired in 2015. He truly appreciated a quality bagel. Upon retirement, he spent his time between Canada, Jamaica, and the USA.
Dalton leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Beryl, his daughters Keisha and Daenya, and his treasured grandchildren Christian Baldyga, Haley Baldyga, and Isla Harding. He also leaves behind his sons-in-law Tesfaye Swanson and Lee-el Harding, his brother Raglan Edwards, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He cherished being with his family.
Dalton was honest, hardworking, jovial, and kind. His presence enhanced every gathering because his gentle spirit and lightheartedness was always apparent. He had a listening ear for anyone he was around, and offered sage advice. When debating a topic, he was rational and respectful. And when warranted, he was strong enough to concede by saying, "maybe you're right".
He enjoyed reading, sudoku, and was a jack-of-all-trades. Whenever his daughters anticipated his visit, their to-do lists were prepared in advance, and he never disappointed.
He also had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good game of dominoes. He would laugh heartily as he smashed down his last domino tile to win the match. He was in his element singing along to music and enjoying a hearty dish of red peas soup, curry chicken, or ox-tail.
Dalton attended Vere Technical High School in Jamaica, and was a member of the Vere Tech Alumni Association, Toronto Chapter. His church home was Fellowship Baptist Church in Markham, Ontario.
Dalton held himself to a high moral standard and lived a principled life. He is remembered with love, fondness, and gratitude. His was a life well lived and he will be missed dearly. He is now resting at peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral service will be held Friday, July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Promise Land Church, 240 Burwell Rd., West Haven, followed by burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Ave., New Haven. Family and friends may attend a viewing at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
