Bertha Collins (Sue Tyson), 83, of New Haven, CT entered eternal rest on Monday, July 3, 2023.

Mrs. Collins was born October 31, 1939 in Ansonia, CT, to Jessie Sanders of South Carolina and Virginia Lockett of North Carolina.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, her four children; daughter, Wanda Tyson (Hafeez Shabazz, deceased); sons, Charles Tyson III, Roy Tyson (Cheryle) and Nathan Collins, Jr. (Stephanie); her sisters, Mary Donegan and Juanita Sanders; brothers, Jessie Sanders Jr. of South Carolina and Sean; and her aunt, Dorothy Joyner of Society Hill, SC. Bertha is also survived by 14 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Virginia; sister Gloria Sanders and both ex-husbands, Charles Tyson, Jr. and Nathan Collins, Sr.

A celebration of Mrs. Collins' life and legacy will be held Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
