Obituary

Clarence Bromell, 85, was born in Plantersville, South Carolina on September 21, 1935 to the late Harrison and Alice Dease Bromell. Clarence entered peaceful eternal rest on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in the Town of Hamden, Connecticut.

Clarence was educated in the Georgetown, South Carolina School System and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E Church, Georgetown, SC. Clarence came to Connecticut in 1958 to visit with cousins and friends who migrated years before. Clarence and Helen decided to migrate to Connecticut in 1964 to make it their permanent residence. Clarence secured employment as a lead machinist for Burndy's Corporation and Stone Safety Corporation. Clarence retired after 24 years of custodial service from Congregational Beth El-Keser Israel in New Haven, Connecticut.

Clarence was an avid sports fan, especially boxing, football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed cooking out on the grill and working with his hands. It was not unusual to find him with a tool in hand to see what needed to be fixed or what he could build or, tinkering with his mint condition 1979 Lincoln Mark V.

Clarence is survived by his wife; Helen Floyd-Bromell; four sons, Grandal, Franklin (Suzie), Patrick (Siretha) and Mark; four daughters, Gail (Roscoe), Margaret (Nate), Cathy and Latrecia; two brothers, Cleveland (Ernestine) and James Oliver, one sister, Sara Rice; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, and extended family to cherish his memory.

Clarence was predeceased by son, Spencer, and granddaughter Sheena.

A Celebration of Clarence's life and legacy will be held Friday, March 5, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven A Walk-through viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Anyone attending the celebration of life, viewing or burial must adhere to any and all COVID-19 safety precautions and restrictions.
