Alphonza L. Burgess, 64, of New Haven, entered into eternal rest December 4, 2015.

Mr. Burgess was born in Kingstree, SC, on December 15, 1950, son of the late James Burgess, Sr. and Ola Mae Brogdon Burgess Goodwine.

Prior to retiring, he was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 39 years as a Welder.

He is survived by his wife, Serena Burgess; sons, Severic Burgess (La'Trece) and Clifton Edwards (Lousia); a daughter, Shironda Burgess; brothers, James Burgess, Jr. and Robert Fitzgerald Goodwine; sisters, Theresa Barnwell, Vanessa Felix Burgess and Willet Wooten; his longtime companion, Credella Grayson; and grandchildren, Alexus Eaddy and Brandon Moncrease.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Burgess; and a sister, Doris Garrett.

A celebration of Mr. Burgess' life and legacy will be held Friday, December 11, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
