Dorothy J. Gatison Smith, 71, of Hamden, departed this life September 27, 2009.
Born in Darlington, SC, July 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late George and Oneatha Kettle Gatison.
Ms. Smith was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Machine Operator for numerous years and was a longtime member of Joy Temple Church of Christ in Prayer.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Earl Smith; daughters, Francine and Michelle Smith; brothers, Lucious and Roosevelt Gatison; sisters, Mary Hall, Maggie Ings, Lizzie McKay and Charlena Wilson; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Smith; brothers, George and Nelson Gatison; and sisters, Eva Bell Bishop and Oneatha Phillips.
A celebration of Ms. Smith's life and legacy will be held Friday, October 2, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at Joy Temple Church of Christ in Prayer, 424 Howard Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:00-10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
